The Walt Disney Company Cashes in on Top Talent

Interestingly you may be surprised to know the Disney has re-invented itself as an entertainment company that includes TV, Movies, Amusement Parks and Branded merchandise. 

The mass media conglomerate of Walt Disney studios purchased Pixar animation, Star Wars Lucasfilm and acquired Marvel entertainment and assets of 21st Century Fox networks.

Disney has 20 live-action movies of its animated classics planned. Disney is bringing back a number of movies for a new generation of kids. Disney is remaking a number of animated classics into live-action movies.

It began with Maleficent, the villain’s point of view with Angelina Jolie Disney remaking them. Cinderella was re-envisioned. The Jungle Book was brought to life by jaw-dropping visual effects, Pete’s Dragon and Beauty and the Beast was a mega-hit, grossing over $1 billion at the box office.

After the success of 2016’s The Jungle Book and 2018’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney has  committed to breathe new life into its animated movies. In 2019 alone, Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King all received the live-action treatment (though, The Lion King is more of a CGI animation than a live-action production), with many more adaptations in the works. 

The Lion King being developed at the same time as The Jungle Book 2, and casting includes James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, Donald Glover as Simba, John Oliver as Zazu, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa. Beyonce plays Nala.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil picks up several years after the events of the first movie and continues to explore the complex relationship between Maleficent and Aurora, who is soon to be Queen. In a departure from the animated film, the villain of this new Mulan is a powerful witch played by Gong Li, instead of the Hun invader Shan Yu

The new Lady and the Tramp remake will be a live-action/animation hybrid, but the dogs will be played by real-life dogs. Actor Justin Theroux is voicing the titular Tramp, while Tessa Thompson will fill the role of Lady. to debut exclusively on Disney’s streaming service 

The Little Mermaid and while Zendaya was previously rumored for the lead role, it was instead announced that singer Halle Bailey is playing Ariel. Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play villain Ursula, with Jacob Tremblay in line to voice Flounder and Awkwafina set to voice Scuttle Production is expected to begin in early 2020.

Disney is also developing a live-action update of its first live-action feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Oscar nominee Emma Stone is attached to anchor a Cruella de Vil movie aptly named Cruella, other projects include: Pinocchio, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Prince Charming, Oliver Twist, James and the Giant Peach, Tink, Peter Pan, The Sword in the Stone. Lilo and Stitch.
